Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Living Bread
As followers of Christ,
We believe that Jesus is the living bread that came down from heaven.
If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.
And the bread that He gives for the life of the world is His flesh.
(Based on John 6:51)
Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Good Shepherd
As followers of Christ,
We believe that Jesus is the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
(Based on John 10:11)
Responsive Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Good Shepherd
Leader: For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—
ALL: but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
ALL: We believe that Jesus is the Christ,
who has come to save His people from their sins.
(Romans 5:6-8, John 10:14-15, Matthew 1:21)
Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Resurrection and the Life
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.”
ALL: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
(John 11:25-26; Romans 10:9-10)
Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Bread of Life
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.”
ALL: For this is the will of God,
that everyone who looks on the Son
and believes in him should have eternal life,
and will be raised up on the last day.
(Based on John 6:35, 37-39, 40 ESV)
Responsive Reading: Christ the Door
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.”
ALL: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.
Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly.
(John 10:9-10)
Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Light of the World
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
ALL: In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
(John 8:12; 1:4 ESV)
Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Way, the Truth and the Life
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
ALL: And there is salvation in no one else,
for there is no other name under heaven
given among men by which we must be saved.
(John 14:6-7, Acts 4:12)
Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Way, the Truth and the Life
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
ALL: We believe that we, who were once separated from Christ, have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Through him we have access in one Spirit to the Father and are no longer strangers to His covenants of promise, but are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone.
(Based on John 14:6; Ephesians 2:12-20)
Affirmation of Faith: Christ the Vine
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
ALL: We believe that they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
For He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength.
We can do all things through Him who strengthens us.
(Based on John 15:5; Isaiah 40:29-31; Philippians 4:13)
